Assistant/Associate Professor of Polymer Science The University of Akron

The Department of Polymer Science at The University of Akron seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Polymer Chemistry at the Assistant or Associate (tenure) Professor rank beginning in August 2018. The ideal candidate would develop an active research program in supra or macromolecular chemistry, catalysis, catalytic polymerization, olefin polymerization and/or chemical methodology to control the microstructure and stereoregularity of macromolecular systems.

Applicants should have 1) a PhD in chemistry or polymer related field, 2) a record of research accomplishment, as demonstrated by relevant peer-reviewed publications, 3) an ability to teach and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and 4) strong communication and teamwork skills.

In addition to building an externally funded research program in polymer chemistry, the successful applicant will be expected to direct graduate and undergraduate student research in their area of expertise; teach graduate and undergraduate classes; and contribute to the functioning of the department, college, and university through service on committees, centers, and outreach activities.

The successful candidate will be well-placed to leverage large existing university investments in polymers, including the National Polymer Innovation Center (NPIC, http://www.uakron.edu/cpspe/about-us/buildings-npic.dot), the National Center for Education and Research on Corrosion and Materials Performance (NCERCAMP https://www.uakron.edu/corrosion/ncercamp/), and The Biomimicry Research Innovation Center (BRIC, http://uabiomimicry.org/), and will cultivate and enhance relationships with the more than 2400 companies that work with polymers in Northeast Ohio.

The University of Akron, with 22,000 students, has a world-class history in polymer science and polymer engineering dating back to 1909. The Department of Polymer Science currently has 20 full time faculty and 214 full time graduate students.
