The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics invites nominations and applications for one or more positions as a limited-term Assistant Professor or Instructor (e.g., Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor).

Within this setting, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a modern chemistry program leading to B.S., B.S.Chem., and B.A degrees certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS). With over 400 chemistry majors, the Department ranks in the top 25 producers of ACS-certified B.S. chemistry majors nationwide. This position will contribute in student-centered classroom and broad-based laboratory instruction for our students.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department Chair, the limited-term Assistant Professor or limited-term Instructor in Chemistry will be responsible for a workload of 15 hours per semester in teaching core chemistry courses for majors and non-majors and other duties as specified by the Department Chair. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment should funding permit and based upon satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one-year basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications for Limited-Term Assistant Professor:
Earned doctorate in chemistry or closely related field by August 1, 2017. Evidence of commitment to teaching; ability to teach undergraduate chemistry courses and laboratories; ability to work with diverse populations; and effective communication skills in spoken and written English.

Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Required Qualifications for Limited-Term Instructor:
Earned master’s degree in chemistry or closely related field by August 1, 2017. Evidence of commitment to teaching; ability to teach undergraduate chemistry courses and laboratories; ability to work with diverse populations; and effective communication skills in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications for both ranks:
A minimum of 2 years of college/university teaching.
