We have one research Post-doctoral research opportunity is available with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (MRICD). MRICD is seeking ideally a postdoctoral candidate with a background in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry. The lab will also consider bachelor or master graduates with the appropriate background. This is a twelve month appointment and the appointment can be renewed up to four additional years (5 years of research participation). U.S. Citizenship is required for this opportunity. This opportunity includes, but is not limited to the following:
The participant will assist in the safe and efficient synthesis and purification of new medical countermeasure products. This internship program will focus on sophisticated and modern synthesis techniques to uncover new classes of compounds which maximize their desired properties.
Bench experience in small molecule synthesis, purification and analytical characterization including HPLC, MS and biophysical methods is expected as well as the ability to mine scientific literature and databases.
It is anticipated that the intern is able to execute and trouble-shoot synthetic routes to target molecules and has the skills to interpret basic analytical and structural data. Within the role the intern is expected to, (1) develop increasingly independent ability to design synthetic routes and, (2) develop a basic understanding of medicinal chemistry and the ability to interpret biological data, such that they can begin to make new target proposals.
