A postdoctoral position is available in a collaborative project between the Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Coatings and Polymeric Materials at North Dakota State University in the area of synthesis and characterization of monomers and polymer systems for coatings. Duties will include the development of methods for the preparation of monomers from biomass and initial examination of polymerization reactions for coatings and other applications, preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication, and presentations of research at national meetings. A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Coatings and Polymeric Materials or related field with experience in organic and polymer synthesis and characterization is required. Also required are excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry; experience in method development; handling of air and moisture sensitive compounds; experience with polymer synthesis; good skills in purification and characterization of monomers and polymers by analytical techniques. Position will be for one year with the possibility or renewal based on performance and availability of funds.
