The US Naval Research Laboratory is searching for qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Chemistry Division to participate in firefighting foam research. This position involves synthesis, characterization and evaluation of silicone surfactants as replacements for fluorocarbon surfactants in the development of new firefighting foam formulations. Some experience with synthetic silicone chemistry or surfactant synthesis, surfactant properties and fuel combustion is desirable. The research if focused on the design and synthesis of new surfactants on the 10-20 gram scale, their foaming properties and benchtop fire-extinction testing. Innovative research approaches are needed, and the successful candidate will be a member of a five person project team.
