ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING: ADVANCED MATERIALS
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University invites applications for one
tenure/tenure-track faculty position at the level of assistant professor or associate professor.
Candidates with research and teaching expertise in advanced materials and materials manufacturing
and related mechanical engineering areas are sought to synergistically strengthen current
departmental research and teaching activities. Specific areas of interest include:
• Multifunctional Materials
• Advanced Materials Characterization
• High Temperature Structural Materials
• Soft Materials
• Micro and Nanofabrication
This faculty position is a full-time nine-month appointment starting Fall 2018. Successful
candidates will be expected to build and maintain a strong, internationally recognized research
program supported through external funding, to enhance the Department's educational programs, and
to provide service to the University and broader community. Successful candidates will be expected
to teach courses in our mechanical engineering curriculum at the undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D.
levels, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and develop advanced courses in his or her

A Ph.D. or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a closely related field is required by start
date. Candidates should demonstrate great promise for extraordinary scholarship, and preferably
have post-doctoral experience in an academic, government, or industrial setting. Candidates must
exhibit ability and enthusiasm to teach courses in the Department’s undergraduate and graduate
curriculum and demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to diversity.

grants graduate degrees ( MS and PhD) in materials science and engineering. SAMD is an
interdisciplinary school spanning multiple departments and colleges that serves as a nexus for
materials science and engineering research and education at CSU.

Central Instrument Facility (CIF) http://cif.colostate.edu/ provides state-of-the-art research
infrastructure and education services in support of advanced chemical and materials science The CIF
offers a complement of sophisticated instruments and technical expertise in materials science and
engineering, including Imaging and Surface Science (SEM, TEM, AFM, Profilometer, Contact Angle
Goniometer), mass spectrometry, material property analysis (thermal/magnetic/electrical), X-ray
diffraction and spectroscopy and so forth.
