We have an excellent research profile in all areas of Chemistry. We perform cutting-edge research that has led to highly visible publications, technology-transfers to industry, as well as the creation of several start-ups. Over the past decade the Department has averaged over 10 million dollars in extramural research funding per year and has graduated an average of about 25 Ph.D. students per year. These students have gone on to leadership positions in academia and industry. In addition to our highly ranked graduate program, the Department boasts a nationally lauded undergraduate program that graduates an average of 69 B.Sc. students per year. We encourage undergraduate participation in research, outreach, and activities in Professional organizations in order to enhance their professional preparation. In addition, the Faculty and graduate students provide instruction to thousands of undergraduate students each year through service courses whose reach encompasses Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, and Nursing. Over and beyond research and teaching, our outreach efforts impact the activities of major Professional Societies as well as regional high-schools and colleges. These research, teaching, and outreach efforts are supported by a dedicated staff that forms the essential bedrock of our Department.
